Buenos Aires City

Buenos Aires is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a strong culture, deep history and romantic streets with beautiful colonial architecture making it renowned as the “Paris of Latin America”. It is the birthplace of the Tango and is a city that offers a unique combination of new and old with art galleries, theatres, live music, historic monuments, superb restaurants and cafes offering traditional Argentinean cuisine, plazas and parks, outdoor markets and modern shopping centres.

Parks

Buenos Aires is home to a multitude of plazas and parks providing idyllic surroundings to take a stroll and relax. The Parque Tres de Febrero is one of Buenos Aires’ largest with a paddle boat lake and exceptional rose garden. The Botanical gardens are the oldest in Latin America whilst Buenos Aires Japanese Gardens are the largest of their type in the world outside of Japan itself. Plaza de Mayo is located in the official quarter of the city surrounded by the national and city government offices and the Plaza San Martín is overlooked by some of Buenos Aires most significant architectural landmarks.

Places of Interest

Avenida Corrientes is the central Tango district and home to the Porteño culture. Avenida 9 de Julio honours Argentina’s Independence Day and is where one of the widest avenues in the world is situated. Avenida de Mayo is renowned for its Art Nouveau and eclectic styles that are likened to those of certain areas of Madrid, Barcelona and Paris. Avenida Alvear is a wealthy area with some of the best 5-star hotels.

Events

One of the top five book fairs in the world – the Buenos Aires International Book Fair – is held in April. In November, “La Noche de los Museos” takes place where most of the cities museums are open all night. Many fashion events are also held in Buenos Aires, which is the first UNESCO City of Design; Buenos Aires Fashion Week is held twice.

Polo and Horse Riding

Polo is the sport of Argentina for which it is renowned for its world-class polo facilities and overall excellent riding. Being the uninterrupted world champion since 1949, it is not surprising the high level of excellence in the country. Buenos Aires and its surroundings is the hub of the Polo sporting events and activities in Argentina. The season starts in August normally in Polo fields around the north of Buenos Aires.

El Tigre Delta

El Tigre Delta is located to the north of Buenos Aires and is the starting point of hundreds of islands that form part of the Delta of the Paraná, the outlet to the Río de la Plata. It is a unique area rich in flora and fauna and is one of Argentina’s most unexplored tourist areas. With abundant waterways, it is a great location for nautical and aquatic sports with a selection of canoe and yacht clubs as well as fishing. There are boat trips available along the rivers and creeks of the Delta. It is also the location of Argentina’s largest amusement park, El Parque de la Costa.
